Roosevelt Island Lighthouse Park Party/BBQ Broken Up By Public Safety Department Late Saturday Night - Separate Report Of Guns Unfounded

Entrance To Lighthouse Park On East Channel

I asked Roosevelt Island Public Safety Department Director Keith Guerra what was going on Saturday night at Lighthouse Park.
I understand there was a late night party/BBQ at Lighthouse park last night.

Were there any problems or incidents?
The 8/14 - 8/15 Public Safety Report indicates:

Investigation- NYPD responded to Light House Park for a report of males possibly with guns. PSD also responded. A search was made with negative results.
According to Mr. Guerra:
These two are separate incidents.

There was a call to NYPD regarding Firearms, which was Unfounded.

There was also an unauthorized party at Lighthouse Park, which was broken up by our Department without incident.

If there was indeed a man or men with guns what would public safety be adequately prepared? sounds like there should be a larger presence at the lighthouse.

I hope PSD will never be allowed to wear gubs. I appreciate PSD's many activities and if guns are needed it is a job for the NYPD not for conscierges

on a serious note, what is the director of public safety's opinion on this matter? This is not the first time I have seen gun play in the safety reports. If anyone was really on the island with guns, how quickly can psd get there, and if there is someone with a gun what does psd do and how long would it take nypd get to the island? does a psd officer throw its radio at the man with the gun and run away like the rest of the unarmed island?

Why arm the PSD, when we can just call the NYPD and wait 20 minutes to a half hour for them to respond over the bridge?

Seems to me that it would be more efficient to have the Officers already here trained in Firearms. Lord knows, they would probably get hassled less then they presently do.

Plus, most of the people hanging out at Lighthouse Park are folks who live off-island. They're the ones we should be worried about.
