Roosevelt Island Operating Corp (RIOC) President Susan Rosenthal reported to the May 9 RIOC Board of Directors meeting on the following subjects.
- Cherry Blossom Festival Transportation Mess - plans for handling crowds expected for the June 1-2 Figment NYC event. Developing safety procedures with NYC Emergency Management, NYPD, FDNY, & MTA. Figment NYC will be a test case to determine if Roosevelt Island can manage large crowd events. May 23 Roosevelt Island Town Hall Meeting on large crowd events.
- Macy's July 4 Fireworks Celebration barges will be south of Brooklyn Bridge. No view from Roosevelt Island so no event planned here.
- Proceeding with $ 5 million Bike Lane for East Side of Roosevelt Island. Bike Ramp proposal submitted to NYC Department of Transportation.
- Roosevelt Island Youth Center Renovation begins next week.
- Motorgate Repairs beginning in June, 15-16 month project
- Electric car charging stations being installed at Motorgate Garage
- Tram elevator redesign approved by MTA and Buildings Dep't, waiting for contractor to obtain necessary permits. Been assured permits would be received before end of summer and construction will take 18 months.
- FDR Hope Memorial bogged down in NYC bureaucracy.
- PSD Chief Jack McManus is retiring for health reason but will remain consulting for RIOC on Roosevelt Island Public Safety issues. There will be a party for Chief McManus on June 26 at Good Shepherd Chapel. Everybody is invited (See More Here).
- RIOC Director David Kraut thanked for his 25 years of service to Roosevelt Island community.
