Are you a Roosevelt Island parent of a pre-school age child looking for day care? If so, you may want to check out the Roosevelt Island Day Nursery (RIDN) which will be holding an Open House on Saturday April 2 from 11 AM - 1 PM.
More information on RIDN is available at their web site.

405 main St is also an infant / toddler day care, so the RIDN services children from 3 months up through age 5.
Any idea on cost for infant care full day and and the extended day option?
Why would I want to see a school when there aren't any kids and teachers in action? Poking around on a Saturday doesn't tell me much.
On the flip side, Anonymous at 9:16pm, would you want strangers coming and staring at your children when you had left them in the capable hands of their educators?
Don't be ridiculous. Schools have visitors of all sorts for varied reasons all the time. Opening schools for prospective parents means parents are there to observe teachers in action, to see how they interact with students, what day to day operations look like, get a sense for how nurturing an environment is, and many other things that can't be gleaned from an empty classroom. They're not there to "stare" at someone else's kids.
Today's parents are paranoid and over-think every little detail. That's my take from my last 9 years parenting three children. Do you really think, poster from 9:27am, that you will get a full picture of how a typical day at the day care is? If there is indeed anything "bad" going on they will not showcase it during the tours.
This is a wonderful school. My child attends it and absolutely loves it. I would never want the director to host open house during school hours.
They are planning to have parents and teachers there during the Open House. You will be able to talk to them.
I'm a teacher and welcome folks of all kinds into my classroom to look around. You certainly get a better idea if the school is a match for your family when actual teaching and learning is going on.
I work as a nurse at a private school in NYC - we have our open houses after hours and on weekends when no students are in the building. We have limited group tours for serious applicants during school hours, but they can only observe from outside the classroom, as to not disturb the students. I'm pretty sure this is common practice.
Good Grief !!! What is wrong with everyone ???
Here is a well established Island institution, with a great health, safety and developmentally appropriate reputation, opening its doors to potential enrollees.
Some of you really need to take a breath and stop the hating and complaining...
It seems as though the tour was scheduled on the weekend to accommodate working families. Typically parents who work from 8am-6pm can't make weekday tours because of their workday schedules. I know that the school has an open door policy and they schedule tours during the school day so that interested families can see the school "in action."
If you have not been able to secure an admission at the RIDN or are looking for more affordable options for engaging a 2-4 year old toddler, please look up Les Enfants Montessori School in Astoria (well connected by Q102 bus from the island).
Having extensively explored various pre school options in and around the island within a certain budget i am finally going to send my 3 year old to this school this fall. They have flexible schedules and payment options.
If there are a few more parents willing to register here, the school will send a private school bus to pick up the kids from the island itself. For more info look up http://www.lesenfantsschool.com/ or contact me on nishaninan@gmail.com / 917 755 1064
