Roosevelt Island Marlins Swim Team Says Goodbye And Thank You To Coach Michael Gavrilchin And Welcomes New Head Coach Roman Sloudnov To Marlins Family
The Roosevelt Island Marlins Swim Team reports:
Michael Gavrilchin, the longtime coach of the Roosevelt Island Swim team, has left the Marlins to pursue other coaching opportunities and complete his degree in Sports Medicine. Over the seven years with our team, he has touched the lives of so many Roosevelt Island children and adults! Michael has helped us elevate Marlins to a new level, inspiring a generation of island kids to become competitive swimmers. While we are sad that he left, we know Michael will do a wonderful job in his new position.More information on the Roosevelt Island Marlins Swim Team available at their web site.
We thank Coach Michael for his dedication to Roosevelt Island Swim team, and for passing the baton to our new Head Coach - Roman Sloudnov! We are proud to welcome Coach Roman to the Marlins family and look forward to his leadership contributions.
Our goal for the upcoming season is returning to the renovated Sportspark pool and building a stronger Learn to Swim program and competitive team, while continuing to foster an environment where success at the pool is equally as important as children's social development and academic progress.
Coach Roman graduated magna cum laude from Missouri State University with a BS in finance, and worked with swimmers at Drury University, MO (Division II swim team), trained elite athletes for Brazilian Olympic trials at Gremio Nautico Uniao, Brazil, and, before joining the Marlins, coached for Match Point swim team in Brooklyn. As a professional swimmer, he represented Russia in four Olympic games (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012). Coach Roman is an Olympic Bronze Champion, multiple time World Champion in 100m breaststroke, 2000 and 2001 World record holder in 100m and 200m breaststroke, 2001 European Swimmer of the Year, and the first person to ever swim 100m breaststroke in under 1 minute.
This is an exciting time to be part of the Roosevelt Island Swim Team, we are eager to see our swimmers progress under Coach Roman's stewardship!
