The Roosevelt Island Library and Youth Center Chess Tournament is soliciting players for the Island’s first-ever rated competition February 22.The Roosevelt Island NY Public Library will also be hosting a series of Chess Movies including:
Up to 30 players will compete in three different levels: beginner, intermediate and rated players according to their chess level. The competition will be a double elimination tournament with each game lasting no more than 25 minutes maximum.
All players will receive a medal for participating and the top three players at each level will receive trophies.
All players must be at least six-years-old to participate.
Register for free in person at the Roosevelt Island Library, 524 Main Street, or call 212.308.6243.
“We are so thrilled that our children will have the opportunity to participate in one of the world’s most classic games,” said Erica Spencer-EL, director of RIOC Youth Center where a regular chess program was initiated at Sportspark last fall. “Chess helps children improve their IQs, concentration, memory and problem-solving skills.”
