Kamala Harris Overwhelmingly Wins 2024 Presidential Vote On Roosevelt Island - Not True For The Nation, Donald Trump Is The Next President Of United States

I wish I could say that as Roosevelt Island votes in the 2024 Presidential election, so does the rest of the nation. Sadly, that was not true as Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the 2024 Presidential election.

How did Roosevelt Island vote in the election?

Roosevelt Island Early Vote and Election Day Coordinator Judy Berdy reports that 1,997 ballots were cast during early voting and 1,000 ballots were cast on Election Day for a total of 2,997 votes. The most ever.

According to the NYC Board Of Election November 5,2024 unofficial results,

Kamala Harris received a total of 1,846 votes, Donald Trump received 382 votes and write in votes were 46 for a total of 2,274 with 99% reporting in Roosevelt Island Election Districts 59 - 62.

I'm not sure why there is a difference between the 2997 combined Early Voting/Election day ballots reported and the unofficial 2274 Board of Election voting results reported.

The NYC Map Atlas compares the 2020/2024 Presidential Election vote numbers by Election Districts including Roosevelt Island.

Click here to compare how Roosevelt Island voted between Biden/Trump in 2020 and Harris/Trump in 2024. The 2024 vote numbers are slightly different than the Board of Election numbers.

The City also breaks down the NYC Presidential vote by Election District.

According to the NY Times:

Trump now control the Presidency, Senate and Supreme Court. Control of the House of Representatives is still to be determined.

Almost 2 Thousand Roosevelt Island Residents Cast 2024 Early Voting Ballots At RIVAA Gallery - Last Chance For Roosevelt Island To Vote On November 5 Election Day At PS/IS 217

Almost 2 thousand Roosevelt Island residents cast their early voting ballots at RIVAA Gallery this past week. Dozens of first time voters cast their ballots including this young woman

who told me how proud she was to cast her first ballot as a recent American citizen.

Roosevelt Island Early Voting and Election Day Coordinator Judy Berdy reports:
WHAT DID 1979 ISLANDERS DO LAST WEEK? THEY VOTED EARLY!!

The last week had been invigorating, interesting, exhausting and definitely not boring.

Islanders showed up in numbers that surprised us. There were dozens of who were first time voters, all of whom got a round of applause from the poll workers and other voters.

The hours are grueling, 96 open to the public plus opening and closing times. Luckily most of our team live on the island so the commute is minimal. Our team is great, every day every one of our 24 poll workers were at the poll-site.

Mommies, daddies, babies, grannies and grandpas all came to vote in all modes of transport!!!

Thanks to our great community for turning out. The comment I got the most from off islanders is what a small town this is!!!

I will be up at 4 a.m. tomorrow to open the school pollsite at 5 a.m. and welcome voters at 6 a.m.

THANKS TO RIVAA FOR USE OF THE GALLERY FOR OUR EARLY VOTING SITE. THANKS TO MARGIE SMITH, CAT AND JIM FOR MAKING US WELCOME IN THIS WONDERFUL SPACE!
Roosevelt Island election day voting tomorrow, November 5, is at PS/IS 217 (645 Main Street).

As previously reported, in the 2020 Presidential election:
... Joe Biden received a total of 1832 Roosevelt Island votes, 1637 on the Democratic Party Line and 195 on the Working Families Party line.

Donald Trump received a total of 381 Roosevelt Island votes, 354 on the Republican Party Line and 27 on the Conservative Party line....

for a total of 2213 votes.

In the 2016 Presidential election:

... Hillary Clinton received 2229 Roosevelt Island votes and Donald Trump received 331 Roosevelt Island votes...

for a total of 2560 votes.

In 2008:

... 2,873 Roosevelt Islanders voted, 2418 for President- Elect (that sounds good) Barack Obama, 424 for Senator John McCain and 31 for others....

and:

... In the 2004 Presidential election, 2373 Roosevelt Islanders voted, Kerry received 1973 votes, Bush 380 and Nader 20....

Hopefully, we'll have the results of the 2024 Presidential election soon.

Roosevelt Island RIVAA Gallery Election Early Voting Polling Site Very Busy So Far With 858 Votes Already Cast - NYC Mayor Eric Adams Urges New Yorkers To Vote And Make Your Voices Heard

Early voting has begun on Roosevelt Island at the RIVAA Gallery (527 Main Street).

As of 6 PM tonight, 858 Roosevelt Island early votes have been cast at RIVAA Gallery and according to the site's poll workers they are:
Very, very busy.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams submitted the op-ed article below about voting to local NYC community media including Roosevelt Islander Online. According to Mayor Eric Adams:

Polls are Open!

October 28, 2024

Voting is the bedrock of our democracy — it shapes the kind of city, state, and nation we become. The stakes of this year's election could not be higher, and New Yorkers have the chance to make their voices heard on Tuesday November 5th.  The polls will be open from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM on Election Day. If you can’t make it on Tuesday the 5th to vote, you can vote early in-person! Early voting has already started at 155 locations in New York City, and polls will be open through Sunday, November 3rd. Your poll site may have changed, so it’s important to check your location and its hours before you vote online at nycvotes.org.

The outcome of these elections will affect you and your family’s future, our economy, education, health care, and so much more. And in every single race, your vote matters — from president and vice president to your members of Congress and state representatives. We’re deciding who will lead us into the future, and what kind of future we want for our children and grandchildren. Also, six ballot proposals are on the back of your ballot, so remember to flip your ballot and vote on these important initiatives.

I’ve made my plan to vote — it’s critical that you do, too. And not just for yourself; bring your friends and family along. All U.S. citizens aged 18 and older who have registered are eligible to vote. Let’s get to the polls, vote, and ensure we are putting our city first.

For more information on where and how to vote, as well as who and what issues are on the ballot, check out nycvotes.org. All New Yorkers have the right to vote in their language. The Civic Engagement Commission will also be providing interpretation services in select languages and at poll sites on Saturday, November 2nd, on Sunday, November 3rd, and on Election Day, Tuesday, November 5th. For more information on interpretive services, please visit participate.nyc.gov. And if you run into any problems when you try to vote, call 311.

Our administration is determined to ensure that the election process is safe and secure, and that every New Yorker can exercise their right to vote in the safest big city in America. To protect the integrity of our electoral process, there will be an increased security presence at polling places and other key sites throughout the city. This includes uniformed NYPD personnel at every single one of the 1,211 polling places in New York City. While the city will respect and protect people’s right to peacefully protest, we will not tolerate those who violate the law, impede traffic, or engage in voter intimidation.

Voting is a sacred right that so many Americans have struggled and died for, and it is one that we will protect here in New York City. Our democracy relies on individuals with different opinions coming together to find solutions. Working toward a more perfect city and union is never easy. It takes all of us engaging in good faith conversation, expressing our views, and casting our ballots. So, make your voices heard, New York City, and get out and vote. See you at the polls.

Early voting hours at RIVAA Gallery are:

Election day is

NYC Democratic Party Mayoral Nominee Eric Adams And City Council District 5 Nominee Julie Menin Hold Get Out The Vote Rally Yesterday In Carl Schurz Park Across East River From Roosevelt Island - Republican NYC Council Nominee Mark Foley Campaigns Nearby Too

NYC Election day for Mayor, City Council, Public Advocate, Comptroller and Borough President is tomorrow November 2. The Roosevelt Island polling location is at PS/IS 217 (645 Main Street) from 6 am to 9 PM. A sample ballot is here.

NYC Democratic Party Mayoral nominee Eric Adams and NYC Council District 5 (covering Roosevelt Island, Upper East Side and East Harlem) Democratic Party Nominee Julie Menin held a Get Out The Vote campaign rally yesterday afternoon in Carl Schurz park across the East River from Roosevelt Island.

Speaking to his supporters, Mr Adams said:

... We must be safe in our city.

The prerequisite to prosperity is public safety and justice and they go together. We don't have to divide the two.

We could have a new ecosystem of public safety that would include us all. The good guys must win and they wear blue uniforms and blue jeans.

I want people to see that. But I also wanted people to know about my high income earners those who are demonized. Those 65 000 that pay 51% of our income taxes. I wanted people to know about their donation to our museums , their donation into programs to help fill the gap, their donations to foundations. Those donations go to the museums and to Broadway and to use their discretionary dollars to help our community.

We're not dividing our city. There's the ecosystem of those who drive the limousine should be paid good salaries and those who sit in the back of the limousine should be in this city. That's what this city is about and that's how it becomes a great city...

... the beauty of diversity, that's our secret weapon. That is who we are. I mean this is the only country that does dream attached to it's name. There's no French dream there's no German dream there's no Polish dream but there's an American dream....

... I am so excited, I was waiting to say just get Julie elected so we could have a partner. Her competency, we have done so much together throughout the years...

Here are the full remarks from Mr. Adams

Ms Menin said:

... I cannot tell you how fired up I am about this election, about my election, about Eric Adams election, about the whole Democratic ticket, Alvin Brag, Mark Levine the whole ticket. And I'm fired up because we're the party of science, we're the party of facts, we're the party that is going to fund our public schools, we're the party that's going to build affordable housing, we're the party that's going to make our communities safe and make sure that we have equal justice and accountability. That is what this party is about....

Now let's get out and vote.

Local Democratic elected officials came out to support Eric Adams and Julie Menin yesterday including Senator Chuck Schumer, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, Borough President Gale Brewer, NY State Senator Jose Serrano, NY State Assembly Member Rebecca Seawright and NYC Council Member Ben Kallos.

NYC Council District 5 Republican nominee Mark Foley was also campaigning at the entrance to Carl Schurz Park.

According to Mr Foley the number one issue is::

... public safety and police. We support refunding, restoring, reforming and respecting the police and that's what's separating us from my opponent who promised substantial cuts to the NYPD budget in a substantial not superficial way. That message doesn't resonate in this district...

... I support the vaccine. I do not support a mandate. I think it's terrible what's happening now that these people, these front-line workers who last year were hailed as heroes are being kicked to the curb fired and they're not even allowed to get unemployment and it's just that's unconscionable to me....

Curtis Sliwa is the Republican Nominee for NYC Mayor.

Roosevelt Island Girls Scouts Take Action And Make Video Encouraging You And All New Yorkers To Go Out And Vote Early Or On November 2 Election Day - Watch Video And Go Vote

Roosevelt Island Girl Scout Troop 3233 Leaders Suzy del Campo Perea and Fay Christian report:

Girl Scouts Troop 3233, composed of girls of 3rd and 4th grade, decided to Take Action and be vote promoters by making this video.

Our troop had learned about democracy by getting a ballot to vote for the best Girl Scout cookie flavor and best Girl Scout activity. They also had the visit of RI children’s author Jill Twiss, who read to them her book “Everyone Gets A Say”. Last week they learned about the three branches of USA Government and about what seats are up for this elections.

The troop wrote what they wanted to communicate to New Yorkers about this election and why it is important to vote. We discussed what government positions adults have to vote for and research which are the ballot proposals of 2021.

We hope that this short video will encourage all Roosevelt Islanders and New Yorkers to look into the candidates, understand what they will do for the city and their responsibilities and that they go out and vote, either early voting or on Election Day.

Roosevelt Island Affordable Housing, Community Space, Climate Change Storm Resiliency & Covid Recovery Among Issues Needing To Be Addressed Says Julie Menin, NYC Council District 5 Democratic Party Nominee At Farmers Market Yesterday - She Bought Some Peaches Too

Julie Menin is the Democratic Party nominee to represent Roosevelt Island and the Upper East Side in NYC Council District 5, seeking to succeed current City Council Member Ben Kallos who is term limited from running again.

Ms Menin was at the Roosevelt Island Saturday Farmers Market yesterday meeting and talking with residents about local issues including Roosevelt Island Seniors Association Vice President Andrea Jackson shown below.

Ms Menin also bought some peaches at the Farmers Market

I spoke with Menin about her experience and local issues facing the District. According to Ms Menin:

... I've spent a tremendous amount of time on Roosevelt Island both during the primary and since the primary, speaking to voters about what is on their mind.

Affordable housing is top of mind. We don't want a situation where people are being priced out of Roosevelt Island so that is one of the top concerns I hear .

Another concern I hear is a lack of community space. There's so many wonderful organizations here on Roosevelt Island . We want to make sure that they have the space to meet, to congregate, to do the important work that they're doing.

Climate change, storm resiliency is another issue. We saw it recently with what happens with Hurricane Ida. We want to make sure that Roosevelt Island is truly protected so those are some of the many issues that residents have been speaking to me about.

And certainly recovering from Covid and making sure that the city is fully vaccinated. We still have a ways to go. We're 80% city-wide but there's still room for improvement on that as well....

Visit Ms Menin's web site for more info.

Ms Menin's general election opponent torep resent Roosevelt Island, the UES and East Harlem in NYC Council Distrct 5 is the Republican Candidate Mark Foley.

The General Election is Tuesday, November 2.
